Jorinde Rapsey B.Sc
Nonviolent Communication Facilitator
Born in the Netherlands, I arrived in New Zealand when I was 18 and discovered the beauty of this country and met my life-partner. I studied education and philosophy, finishing my philosophy degree at Otago University with my first child tucked in a sling in 2009. In search for support with my new role as a parent, I stumbled upon an interview with Dr. Marshall Rosenberg, the founder of Nonviolent Communication. Initially I was quick to judge and put off by the thought that “he looks grumpy, he would not be the kind of person I would like to learn from.” Little did I know that he became one of my greatest inspirations.
In 2015 I started to actively search for support in my learning of NVC and I organized workshops in Dunedin, inviting trainers from other parts of the country. In particular, Filipa Hope (who specialises in supporting parents and caregivers through NVC) has been a huge inspiration and support to me. In 2016 I started an NVC practise group in Dunedin. I have completed the Parent Peer Leadership Program (PPLP with NVC trainers Stephanie Bachmann-Matei Phd and Ingrid Bauer) in 2019. In 2020 I was invited to assist Yoram Mosenzon, an overseas trainer and founder of Connecting2Life. After his departure, he continued to invite me to assist him on his online courses: his basic, intermediate, advanced, weekend trainings and year course. I am incredibly grateful for the growth, learning and embodiment of NVC which I continue to gain through assisting Yoram and his colleague Bonno Lange.
My interest in the outdoors started at a very young age. Raised on a farm, I enjoyed spending most of my time outside, building huts and fires. I enjoy sharing my passion for nature with my family, regularly going on multi-day adventures in the beautiful mountains and forests of Aotearoa. NVC-awareness continually supports me to build my capacity for self-connection and helps me to speak from the heart to people around me building deeper connections. For me, NVC serves as a concrete practical tool, supporting my ‘life long’ learning journey to see I have a choice when challenging moments arise. It is my pleasure and privilege to share and explore NVC with others.
